From 1967 onwards, Jean-Marc began mountaineering and skiing with his father and with the Club Alpin Français. He quickly became considered as part of an elite group of highly skilled mountaineers. He trained for rock climbing in Burgundy at the site of Brochon, Fixin, Saffres, Cormot and skied in the Jura at Les Rousses. He started competing, finishing in 4th place in the 1972 national series.In 1971, after his school years in Dijon, Belfort, and finally in Tournus, Jean-Marc graduated with the French Baccalauréat. Between 1972 and 1973, he passed further qualifications at Sens, specializing in mechanical construction. In 1972, he also undertook an internship at an automobile factory in Dijon. Following this experience, he was determined to live of, and near, the mountains !
In this brief Curriculum Vitae, we will not mention repeated climbs or minor alpine routes. |

On September 15th, 1973, he is awarded the diploma of aspiring mountain guide from the National School of Ski and Alpinism of Chamonix -- an essential step before becoming a guide. At this time, he was serving in the Mountain Scout division of the 159th Alpine Infantry Regiment of Briançon, France. |

On February 25th and 26th, 1974, he graduated as Capacitaire de Ski at the E.N.S.A. of Chamonix. |

In March 1977, he graduated as Auxiliary National Ski Instructor from the E.N.S.A. of Chamonix.
In the Summer 1977, he was graduated as Mountain Guide from the E.N.S.A. of Chamonix. |
